Are Dealer Financing Promotions Better?
Car shopping typically goes like this: find the car and then worry about the loan. Since you're usually standing in a dealership that is offering a loan, it's easy to apply right there and take what you can get — especially if the dealer has a special financing offer.
Not everyone qualifies for special financing.
The low interest rates that dealerships promote usualy require a premium credit score and a loan term of 36 months or less. If your credit score isn't ideal or you need a longer loan term, AHCU's rates are more competitive.
When should I apply for loan pre-approval?
If you're not sure that you'll qualify for a premium interest rate, your first step in your auto-buying journey should be to talk to an AHCU loan officer. Our friendly financial experts are happy to discuss your credit status and what to expect when you walk into the dealership.
Another perk to getting pre-approved for a loan is that you won't be subjected to the high-pressure sales pitch for add-ons at the dealership as you walk through your financing options.
If you're a first-time buyer...
Then we definitely suggest talking to a loan officer first. The choices you'll face at the dealership can be overwhelming. AHCU's loan experts are committed to your financial wellness, and their recommendations aren't influenced by a sales commission.
So talk to an impartial expert at AHCU before you visit the dealership. Our goal is to ensure you enjoy your car buying experience and feel confident in your choices!

Auto Loans vs. Leases
In these days of high car prices, the lease option is very tempting. A lease typically has a lower monthly payment and you may be able to lease a car that you couldn't afford to buy outright. Switching cars every 3-4 years means you'll always be driving a newer, more reliable vehicle.
In contrast, a car purchase typically involves higher monthly payments than a lease, and you may not be able to get the high-end vehicle of your dreams. But buying means you'll eventually own your car outright.
These days, the average life span for a vehicle is 12 years or 200,000 miles. So a five-year car loan will still leave the average car owner with seven years without car payments, and a vehicle with trade-in value.
Leasing is a good option for the short-term, or for businesses who need newer, more reliable vehicles (and the tax write-off). For individuals, a car purchase is a better personal investment in the long run.
