" Working as a registered nurse while attending graduate school to become a Family Nurse Practitioner has demanded discipline in every part of my life. This journey has shaped a financial mindset built around sustainability and long-term planning. Finding a balance between clinical shifts, coursework, and personal responsibilities has shown me that financial consistency is more beneficial than temporary sacrifice.
One of the most important habits I have learned is setting monthly financial priorities. At the start of each month, I outline essential expenses and savings goals. I also automate a portion of each paycheck to be deposited into a savings account with the Associated Healthcare Credit Union, ensuring consistent contributions toward future expenses and an emergency fund. I adopted this routine early in my nursing career, and it continues to provide stability and peace of mind.
I have also made it a priority to focus on financial education. Whether I am listening to a podcast during my commute or reading personal finance articles during breaks at work, I make it a point to learn something new each day. This practice helps me make better decisions and prepares me more effectively for a secure financial future.
Working in healthcare has further reinforced the value of financial preparedness. I have seen how unexpected health issues can devastate families not only emotionally but financially. I am deeply inspired by my patients, many of whom, despite limited resources, still prioritize their health. Their strength motivates me to be intentional with my resources, maintain an emergency fund, contribute regularly to savings, and limit unnecessary spending.
As I transition into the role of Family Nurse Practitioner, I am developing an understanding of how financial security impacts overall well-being. This scholarship directly supports both my financial and professional goals. It would ease the financial burden of tuition, allowing me to dedicate more time to serving my community and advancing my clinical expertise. With each financial decision, I strive to create a stable future and build a career devoted to service and compassion."
